Through programs like the IRS Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefit Section 132(f), employees can qualify for financial incentives to find an alternative to driving alone. Employees can receive up to $260/month for transit, vanpool or parking expenses, and $20/month for bicycle reimbursement. Speak to your Human Resources Department for more information.
The Transportation Incentive Program (TIP) and the Mass Transportation Benefit Program (MTBP) are federally-subsidized benefits that cover vanpools and all transit in the Hampton Roads area, including the local and express buses, light rail and ferry services. The benefit currently pays up to $260/month. Participants can save as much at $2,000/year on commuting expenses! Vanpools are also eligible to receive TIP and MTBP monies.
For TIP, all active duty Navy and Marine Corps personnel, DON civilians, and Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) employees are eligible. It’s free and easy to sign up online with your government-issued Common Access Card ID. Additional information is available on the Office of Finance Operations website.
