Through programs like the IRS Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefit Section 132(f), employees can qualify for financial incentives to find an alternative to driving alone. Employees can receive up to $270/month for transit, vanpool, or parking expenses. Speak with your Human Resources Department for more information.
Military commuters
The Transportation Incentive Program (TIP) and the Mass Transportation Benefit Program (MTBP) are federally-subsidized benefits that cover vanpools and all transit in the Hampton Roads area, including the local and express buses, light rail and ferry services. The benefit currently pays up to $315/month. Participants can save as much at $3700/year on commuting expenses! Vanpools are also eligible to receive TIP and MTBP monies.
For TIP, all active duty Navy and Marine Corps personnel, DON civilians, and Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) employees are eligible. It’s free and easy to sign up online with your government-issued Common Access Card ID. Additional information is available on the Office of Finance Operations website.
For MTBP, all active duty Army and Air Force personnel, and Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) employees are eligible. It’s also free and easy to sign up online with your government-issued Common Access Card. Additional information is available on the Department of Defense website.
