TRAFFIX Staff Celebrates Earth Day – Part 1

Alexis

Alexis_EarthDayBeing born and raised in the countryside I did not have a clue of how to catch a transit bus until I made a pledge to give it a try. I had a few sleepless nights in the time leading up to my transit challenge – “What if I miss the bus? What if I get off too soon and now I am stranded trying to make my way to Norfolk?.” Thanks to www.gohrt.com I was able to ‘Plan My Trip”. It was a super easy feature to use especially for my first-time bus ride experience. The morning of my bus ride into work, my husband dropped me off at the bus stop as I waited anxiously for Bus 047 to pick me up. As I boarded the bus, I found a comfortable seat and gazed out the window. As we departed from the next stop Florida & High, I realized that was my stop! I was so comfortable on the bus I forgot to check and see where I should depart for the next bus. Once the operator drove off, we continued down High St. to County & Court. Again, I am so comfortable that I am not checking to see what is next for the stops. Everyone that was on Bus 047 with me is off the bus, and I am just sitting there by myself. The operator informed me that was the last stop and my heart instantly dropped. I told her that I am trying to get to Norfolk, and I do not know how to get there from here. She was super sweet and helpful and told me that I will catch Bus 045. As soon as I hopped off her bus, I saw Bus 045 was pulling up for me to board. As we left Portsmouth for Norfolk there was a HUGE sigh of relief that I was making progress to getting closer to work. Once we arrived at the Downtown Norfolk Transfer Center, I was feeling a lot more confident. After a 16-minute wait, I boarded Bus 001 and arrived safely to work. At the end of my journey, I was so proud of myself for learning how to catch a transit bus and learning from my mistakes. Thank you operators for all that you do!
